The President of the Government of Republic of North Macedonia, Zoran Zaev, late in the afternoon on Airport Skopje was part of the august farewell ceremony for His Holiness Pope Francis who today paid one-day historic visit to our country.

At the farewell ceremony Prime Minister Zaev presented the Holy Father, Pope Francis, with a replica of a terracotta icon from 6th or 7th century from the archaeological site Fortress of Vinica. The icon bears the victorious cross of the Byzantine Emperor Constantine who legalized the Christianity with the Edict of Milan in 313. Pope Francis and the numerous delegation of the Catholic Church and Vatican completed their visit with rich program contents that included meeting state officials of the Republic of North Macedonia, meeting with the poor, priests and believers of the Catholic Church in our country, as well as holy mass attended by several thousands of people from the country, the region and several European countries.
